Example of segments

In this article, we will go through various examples of how you can use segments, so that you can easily apply it in your own business, provided that you have the same subscriber data.

To begin with, it's good to know what the following are:

  1. How to create a segment?
  2. What is a segment?
  3. What is a custom field?

We will go through:

  1. Segment events between different dates
  2. Segment on activity
  3. Segment on different languages
  4. Segment on opened/clicked Campaign, Automation or Journey
  5. Segment on number of orders
  6. Segment on amount limit
  7. Segment on number of purchases during a certain time

Segment events between different dates

In this segment, we collect the customers who have placed an order between the current dates, 2023-02-13 - 2023-02-28 according to the example below. Once the segment is created, you can add it to your Campaign, Automation or Journey.

  1. Match 'All'
  2. In the first field, choose 'Order Date', in the middle field 'is greater than or equal to', and in the last field choose the start date for this segment
  3. Then you want to add a '+ New rule'
  4. In the first field, choose 'Order Date' again, in the middle field 'is less than or equal to', and then choose your end date
  5. Click 'Save and sync'

Segment on activity

With activity, it means when a customer/subscriber has either opened or clicked in a campaign. The segment captures customers with activity from 365 days and backwards. It is then dynamically controlled after +365 days of inactivity per respective customer. Once the segment is created, you can add it to your Campaign, Automation or Journey.

  1. Match 'All'
  2. In the first field, choose 'Activity', in the middle field 'at least number of days since', and in the last field, enter the number of days
  3. Click 'Save and sync'

Segment on language

Here we go through if you want to segment your subscribers, for example if you are a company that is international and need to send out communication in different languages. In this example, we segmented on Swedish-speaking customers. Once the segment is created, you can add it to your Campaign, Automation or Journey.

  1. Match 'All'
  2. In the first field, choose 'Language', in the next field 'is equal to'. In the last field, choose which language you want to sort out, in this case we chose 'Swedish'
  3. Save and sync

Segment on opened/clicked Campaign, Automation and Journey

By creating segments based on the subscribers' activities, you can personalize your messages based on their willingness to open or based on which type of links they have clicked on. It improves the possibilities for segmentation and is the basis for more effective messages and targeted messages.

  1. Match 'All'
  2. In the first field, choose either Campaign, Automation or Journey that you want to segment on. Then choose which Campaign, Automation or Journey. After that, you should choose 'subscriber has' or 'does not have', opened, received or clicked on link. In the last field, choose number of days
  3. Save and sync

In this example, we will show how to segment out the subscribers who have made between two to five orders on your e-commerce. If you want to set up this segment, you can of course choose the number of orders to which number you want. Once the segment is created, you can add it to your Campaign, Automation or Journey.

  6. In the first field, choose "OrderNumber", in the middle field "is less than or equal to", and in the last field choose the maximum number of orders you want to segment on, which in this case is 5.
  7. Save and sync

Segment based on amount limit

In this example, we will show how to segment out the subscribers who have made more orders that are over 500 SEK. If you want to set up this segmentation, you can of course choose the amount yourself to any number you want. Once the segment is created, you can add it to your Campaign, Automation, or Journey.
