DKIM and DMARC, to avoid spam folder
DKIM works as a signature for emails, ensuring that messages come from the sender they claim to be from. DMARC is another way to verify incoming emails by authenticating the sender's domain, and is especially important for emails sent to Outlook, Gmail, and Yahoo.
Update Starting from February 1st, 2024, these settings must be in place for your campaigns to reach Gmail and Yahoo.
We will go through:
- Before you start
- Setting up DKIM
- Setting up DMARC
- Validating settings and activating your account
Before you start:
- After setting up DKIM and DMARC, don't forget to validate your settings and email support@rule.se which domain you have set up.
- The settings are done with your domain name provider
- If you send campaigns and mailings from multiple domains, you need to follow these steps for each domain
- If you are unsure how to set it up with your specific domain name provider, you can contact them for guidance
Video guide We have a guide here that you can follow step by step on how to set up DKIM and DMARC here!
Setting up DKIM
Rule supports DKIM and to set it up, you need to add a CNAME. And what is that? It stands for Canonical Name record (abbreviated CNAME record) and is a type of resource record in the Domain Name System (DNS) used to specify that a domain name is an alias for another domain (the canonical domain) in your DNS.
The following should be added:
- keyse._domainkey.xxx.se which points to keyse._domainkey.rulemailer.se
- xxx.se=your domain, for example, alright.se
See the image below:
Setting up DMARC
- Log in to your DNS (domain name provider) and select the domain name you want to use as the sender
- Click on DNS editor
- Click on 'Add Record'
- Select type 'TXT'
- In the 'TTL' field, which stands for Time to live, determine how often the value should be checked per second, write 3600, which is also standard.
- In the 'Data' box, add the following: v=DMARC1;p=none;rua=mailto:dmarc@rule.se;ruf=mailto:authfail@rule.se
Validate settings and activate your account
